The Ministry of Education has launched a new anti-genocide ideology campaign spearheaded by school head teachers. This is in a bid to achieve a rapid progress in fighting the ideology among Rwandans towards a peaceful and just society in 2008.

The stride taken by the Ministry of Education at the beginning of the year is not only ‘a litmus test to the elite who are expected to uphold the future socioeconomic revolution of this country’, as said by the ministry’s Secretary General, Narcisse Musabeyezu.

The new drive is a trek towards a more peaceful and just society in 2008.

The country is currently held between nations undergoing political turbulences due to unstable democratic tendencies. It is a test of time for a landlocked country whose transport of trade merchandise depends on the good will of its neighbourhood.

The ministry’s resolution to launch a new campaign for 2008 is far beyond the agenda on the new drive. It’s an education campaign that will see a more peaceful and just society in the year 2008; no wonder it’s the education sector is expected to transform our society from horrific mind-sets.

The past year has registered a lot in the country’s areas of security, peace and justice; from ensuring a secure Rwanda to maintaining peace and bringing to book all culprits in the abuse of peaceful co-existence.

Let 2008 focus on building a more just and peaceful society that strives to promote the well-being of all its nationals. The 97 percent Genocide ideology cases in some schools that the parliamentary report showed should come to zero level in this year.

Likewise, the family which is the first and indispensable teacher of peace and the foundation of society since it enables its members in decisive ways to experience peace, should also receive a special place in the education sector’s programme for 2008.

Besides the pathway of schools, the family is the only natural conduit through which peace and justice can be fostered in society. Where can young people gradually learn to savour the genuine "taste" of peace and justice better than in the original "nest", the family, which nature prepared for them?

In renewing the match toward a more peaceful and just society, we are echoing the desire of all those concerned for the future of humanity, the future of our country.
