The Kigali City Mayor, Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, has hailed the just ended exhibition of Rwandan products at the ongoing World Cup in South Africa, saying that it was successful and achieved its target of promoting Rwandan culture and nurtured trade opportunities with the rest of the world.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, the mayor said that the exhibition provided young artistes as well as Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) an opportunity to attract customers across the world and widen their customer base.

"Many artistes and SMEs got business contacts from people who are watching the World Cup. This will encourage our youth to engage further in constructing business ideas as well as develop their talents,” Kirabo said.

The Mayor also said that during the exhibition, it was agreed that a football tournament be held every three months amongst cities in South Africa and Rwanda to build cultural cohesion between the two countries.

On Monday, Kigali City Council held celebrations at Rwanda Village marking the achievements of the exhibition, where several musicians performed and as well as video screening of the activities.

During the event, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Monique Nsanzabaganwa, hailed the exhibition, as an opening for Rwandan business operators, who now have their customer base reaching South Africa, Europe and the rest of the world.

"We have very many talented young people in our country who only need exposure for them to reach great heights. The World Cup has enabled us to showcase some of their work and creativity,” Nsanzabaganwa said.

The minister also reiterated the government’s efforts to empower SMEs as well as to make Rwanda a business friendly centre to both local and international investors.

"Starting up a business in Rwanda has been made easier due to the political will from the leadership.”

She said that the exhibition will also boost the tourism and conservation industry.
