IT is an open secret that the English tabloids are always behind the scenes of major football decisions taken by the English F.A.

The 64 year old Italian has won almost everything in football and his reputation as a stern disciplinarian was touted by English tabloids as the much needed ingredient that would put the English millionaire players in line.

After signing as England manager in December 2007, the Italian’s reign was not only smooth sailing but at one time the world was led to believe, (by you know who) that England’s time to dominate the world in football had come.

English tabloids seemed to be in unison with everything that Mr. Capello was doing, including omitting Theo Walcott, picking Emile Heskey ahead of Darren Bent, gambling on a half fit Gareth Barry and the injury prone Ledley King among many other bizarre decisions.

But after a disastrous performance in South Africa, there has been so much venom towards Capello’s abilities from the same tabloids which beats my understanding.

One particular piece in The Sun, whose daily sales are said to be in the region of 4million left me baffled.

The writer was advocating for David Beckham to be the next England manager and to back up his argument, he drew comparisons with Argentina’s coach Diego Maradona.

Now trying to compare Beckham’s career to Maradona’s is like comparing the prices of a Bugatti Coupe valued at $870, 000 to an Indian Nano valued at $2500.
