AS a woman I feel it’s my sworn duty to bring up this issue which by the way some guys think is the biggest problem with women. Do women ever talk about their age are or when they do, is it the truth?
Truth is I don’t know. What I do know is that a lady has the right to keep what she feels is private to herself. Some guys don’t understand that, in most cases a woman wants to feel comfortable around you or at least know you well enough to tell you her age.
I bet you’re wondering what the big deal is. It’s a big deal. You can’t just meet a lady at a party or anywhere else, talk for 10 minutes then demand to know how old she is. That’s just wrong.
If you’re so interested in her, her age should be the last thing you ever ask her. Why the urgent need to know? However, I don’t think that all women are afraid of exposing their age.
Men tend to characterize all women just because they met a few who were shady when it came to their age. Others just look at a woman and think they have her all figured out going as far as placing bets on her age. I have seen this.
Since when are men straight about their age? I know quite a number of them who are not open about it. You ask them when they finished high school and they will tell you ‘around the 90’s’. They can’t tell you the exact year. I am thinking they know you’ll be doing the math!
Irene is a 27-year-old waitress at MTN Center, Nyarutarama and says she has no problem letting people know her age.
"The exact date of my birthday was on my Facebook profile but all my friends quickly told me to remove the year,” she said.
On the other hand, her colleague Shira Kayitesi says it’s always good to leave men guessing.
"Why should they know? I can only tell you my age if we are dating. Most of my friends only know the day and the month of my birthday,” Kayitesi said.
I don’t know whether it’s the fear of being called too old or too young, or the fact that a woman’s physical appearance doesn’t do justice to her actual age. Haven’t you seen girls who are like 20 years old but look over 30? How do you blame someone like that for not telling you her age? Because she knows even if she did, you wouldn’t buy it.
What should a sister do now?
I just think a person’s age is their business unless he or she wants to make it someone else’s. And incase some of you didn’t know, it is rude to ask a person how old they are, unless it’s a job interview!
