The national women’s basketball team will Friday, December 6, start training prior to participating at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers due from February 14-19 at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
Rwanda will be taking part in the qualifiers as part of their early preparations for Women’s AfroBasket 2023 finals that will take place from July 26 to August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda.
Landry Jabo, the Executive Director at the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba), told Times Sport the team will undergo early preparations in order to engage local players in intensive training such that they can elevate their competition level before they are joined by professional players ahead of the Afrobasket competition.
"Rwanda will participate at the Zone V Afro-basket Qualifiers in order to continue preparing for the finals in Kigali and be able to impress as a host nation for the tournament," Jabo said on Wednesday.
National team head coach Cheikh Sarr will release the provisional squad on Thursday evening before the team starts training Friday, December 6.
