KARONGI - Residents of Murundi Sector, Karongi District are set to benefit from an upcoming water project worth Rwf 13.98 million.

The project which was launched last week, courtesy of Action Aid Rwanda, is set to benefit a local primary school of about 1,000 pupils and four villages consisting of 600 households.

Speaking shortly after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with local authorities at the official launch of the project, Josephine Uwamariya, Action Aid’s Country Director, explained that the project is meant to help improve the sanitary conditions of residents.

"This project will certainly go a long way in helping the population to improve their health and sanitary standards,” she said.

Uwamariya revealed that as a way of showing more commitment to help people out of poverty, Action Aid would distribute piglets worth Rwf5.6million to vulnerable people, especially women.

Innocent Kamanzi, the Executive Secretary of the Sector, welcomed the project saying that such support would help improve the welfare of the residents.

"Use of clean water is a source of good health which is an important aspect in both social and economic development,” he said.
