Over 30 Rwandan students pursuing their studies in India over the weekend visited Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre to pay tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

According to the students coordinator, Mike Shyaka , they wanted to know more about the 1994 Genocide because  some of them had never visited any Genocide memorial site to get first-hand information about the history of the Genocide.

Student leader, Jeanne d’Arc Mujawase, said that they needed to learn more about the Genocide because they meet people in India who ask them about it.

"Practically, specifications of dates and people involved in these killings were not known to us; how Rwanda changed from a monarchy to republican government which promoted ethnic hatred,” Innocent Asiimwe, a student of Computer Application at Bangalore University said.

"This is my first time to visit a Genocide memorial site, but I have got a clearer picture of the Genocide. I had heard of Hassan Ngenzi but I didn’t know of RTLM’s efforts in the Genocide”
