Seeking political mileage from journalist’s murder is base

IT is very sad and tragic that one of us, was murdered in cold blood on Thursday night as he returned to his home. The media fraternity lost one of its own, Jean Leonard Rugambage, and he can never be replaced.

The Media High Council (MHC) and the Association of Rwandan Journalists (ARJ) as well as practicing journalists in the country, condemn his shooting and call for thorough investigations into this senseless killing.

It’s very opportunistic and ruthlessly cynical, that some individuals and organisations, should be accusing a government that stopped the Genocide, and has been rebuilding the nation from scratch, bringing back a sense of dignity to the profession of journalism, badly abused and misused during the genocidal regime, of this heinous crime.

While the detractors may try to selfishly do all they can to tarnish Rwanda’s image, as they seek to portray an air of instability, the people of Rwanda know the truth; That they are living in a very secure country.

Law breakers and criminals exist in every country, even in the most developed. That’s why the government of Rwanda has the national police. This is to ensure security of both lives and property. It is no wonder that Rwanda is one of the most secure countries in Africa, if not the world.

Given the windfall Rugambage’s murder has presented to the government of Rwanda’s detractors, the excitement of which they can hardly contain, the question is; who stands to gain from this crime?
