Rwanda’s pro-golfer Emmanuel Ruterana has remained positive about making his debut appearance at this year’s Sunshine tour in South Africa.
Despite missing out on the provisional players’ list, the 26-year-old remains optimistic that he will be included on the list before the event gets underway at the end of this month.
"Last year, Davis Kashaka (ex- Kigali Golf Club captain) received word from the Sunshine tour organizers that I would be lined-up for this year’s tour unfortunately, my name doesn’t appear on the provisional list.
"So I have written to the tour organizers and expect a response in the next few days,” he explained.
Uganda’s Deo Akope and Godfrey Mande have been drafted on the provisional list.
The Sunshine tour is a men’s professional golf tour based in South Africa and is one of six leading men's tours which make up the International Federation of PGA Tours.
The South African Open, the Dunhill Championship, and the Joburg Open are the most prized events on the tour.
Meanwhile, it’s only a matter of weeks and not months before Jean Baptiste Hakizimana joins the professional ranks.
The country’s top amateur golfer yesterday revealed that he is still having talks with his MTN, his official sponsors.
The 19-year-old who has been under a three-month contract with the telecommunications company worth Frw100.000 also confirmed that he was destined to sign an improved one-year contract with the company before the end of January.
Ruterana has advised Hakizimana to improve on his game plan. "I know him well.
He has the talent but I think he needs to improve on his game reading and composure to fit in well,” Ruterana, the only Rwandan professional golfer to date noted.
