Rwanda, DRC defence ministers meet

The Minister of Defence, Gen. James Kabarebe and his Congolese counterpart, Tumba Mwamba, have reaffirmed their commitment to share security information to contain any security threats in the two countries.

According to Gen.Kabarebe, the meeting, which took place in Rubavu, is part of a peace building process in the region.

Dutch government to act on Genocide fugitives

The Dutch minister of Justice Dr. Ernst Hirsch Ballin re-emphasized the urgent need to bring to book Genocide fugitives still living freely in Europe.
Ballin who has been in the country on a working visit, made the remarks early this week after visiting two genocide memorial sites in Bugesera, Eastern province.

Rwanda, Kenya strengthen ties

President Paul Kagame this Monday held discussions at Urugwiro village with Kenyan minister of foreign affairs, Moses Wentagula. Speaking to the press shortly after the meeting, Wetagula said that the purpose of his visit was to sign a bilateral agreement to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries and at the same time discuss regional issues.

Rwanda and Kenya held a Joint Review Commission earlier this year but the two foreign affairs ministers were not available to ratify the minutes and the outcomes of the meeting.

Charges against Kayumba still stand-Mushikiwabo

The government of Rwanda will not be deterred by sentiments over a recent shooting incident in South Africa of Rwanda’s former ambassador to India, Gen.Kayumba Nyamwasa, to exonerate him from the serious crimes he is accused of.

"The government of Rwanda is not angry with him; I want to take the sentiment out of it and say that Gen.Nyamwasa has been pursued for very serious criminal charges it’s not a question of anger, it’s a question of Crime.” This was said by the Government spokesperson and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo this Wednesday during a press conference.

Kagame, Higiro hand in nomination papers

President Paul Kagame, Thursday, formally submitted his documents, as required by law, to the National Election commission (NEC) as the flag bearer for the ruling Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) in the August 9, Presidential election.

Kagame, who was the first candidate to submit his documents, presented his National Identity card, party endorsement certificate and other papers to the chairman of NEC, Pro.Chrysologue Karangwa.
Also on Thursday, Liberal Party’s Prosper Higiro submitted his candidature.

Kagame accepts UN appointment

President Paul Kagame this Thursday said he feels greatly honoured to be appointed  co-chair of the MDG Advocacy Group, Un secretary General Ban-Ki-moon named a high profile committee including president Paul Kagame as a co-chair, aimed at combating poverty, assessing and fast tracking implementation of Millennium Development Goal.
