Gasabo District Advisory Council (DAC) yesterday approved its 2010/2011 budget of Rwf 12.1bn.

In a function held at Kinyinya Sector and presided over by the DAC president, Francois Gakwerere, they allocated the biggest part (39 percent) to development projects, especially infrastructure.

They include laying the tarmac on 37km of roads, extension of electricity to remote areas, construction of about 80km of feeder roads in the remote part of the district connecting to main routes.

Other funds in the infrastructure portfolio will be injected in ensuring better health and education services.
The district will also revitalize the agricultural sector, fight soil erosion – one of hindrances of the sector in the district and provide fertilizers to farmers to increase production.
Rwf 682.2m was also earmarked for community economic empowerment.

24.3 percent of the budget is a support from the government while donors contributed 0.9 percent.
According to the presentation by District Mayor Willy Ndizeye, mobilization of the population and organization of elections was allocated Rwf 520m whereas 28 percent (Rwf 3.4bn) would go to salaries and wages for district staff, teachers and health workers.
