NYANZA - The land registration exercise has commenced in the southern province, with many residents hopeful that this will resolve many land related conflicts.

The programme was officially opened by Fidèle Ndayisaba, the Provincial Governor in Ngwa cell, Mukingo sector, Nyanza district, at a function attended by officials of the National Land Commission and provincial leaders.

Ndayisaba urged residents to embrace the registration and sensitise others to register their land in order to avoid land conflicts.

The land commission stressed that land registration was vital for one to acquire title deeds.

Claudine Kabanyana, one of the beneficiaries said that the registration exercise will give her a chance to solve many problems. "This title deed will help my family to get loans and avoid land related conflicts which are very common,”   she said.

The registration gives a person land rights for 99 years, and requires residents to submit identification and pay registration fee of Rwf1000.

Emmanuel Nkuruzinza, the National Land Commission Director General, advised residents with land conflicts to use courts of law to resolve the differences so as to speed up the registration process.

At least 4,000 parcels of land have been lined up for registration in Ngwa cell in which 3,000 of these have full details. 42 parcels are still held up with land conflicts that have not been resolved.
