KAMONYI - Prime Minister Bernard Makuza yesterday launched the national school feeding programme in Kamonyi District, Southern Province.

The programme was launched at Jean de Paepe Primary School, in Musambira Sector where the Premier participated in the distribution of milk to over 700 pupils.

He urged the pupils to invest the energy in education and work hard to become responsible citizens in future and encouraged parents to improve on the feeding of children.

He also addressed residents in Mugina sector and encouraged the farmers to use the productivity of the district to promote rice and cassava production, and subsequently increase their incomes and social welfare.
He commended residents of Kamonyi District for the efforts towards implementing government development programmes.

"There are evident signs of development in the district and I would like to encourage residents to work harder” Makuza said.

"This is a sign that there has been change in mentality and residents are ready to work”.

At the same occasion, Makuza hailed Prudence Mugabo, an exemplary livestock farmer, who transformed his cow project from local breeds to hybrids using modern methods of agriculture and livestock farming.

Residents of Mugina referred to the Premier’s visit as ‘historical’, saying it has been a long since they were visited by a national leader.

One resident, Idris Habimana, offered a cow to President Paul Kagame and requested the Prime minister to find ways of delivering the animal.

Residents also lauded President Paul Kagame for his commitment to rural development and told that the Premier that the government’s support has transformed their social welfare and registered economic empowerment in the area
Makuza was accompanied by cabinet ministers and other government officials.
