DESPITE losing to Germany 1-0 on Wednesday night, Ghana’s four points from their opening two games and a superior goal difference were enough to see them through to the knockout stages for the second consecutive Fifa World Cup.

Ghana, the only African team to reach the last 16, came second and will now play a confident United States side this Saturday in Rustenburg.

The squad, which has a fair share of Sellas Tetteh’s side which lifted the U-20 Fifa World Cup last year, now needs all the support it can get from the continent.

Having seen South Africa, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon and Ivory Coast exit the World Cup, Africa’s chances entirely rest on Ghana.

It won’t be easy for the West Africans although they have what it takes to pull off another surprise.

Ghana will look to emulate their 2006 World Cup campaign where they edged USA 2-1 at the group stage.

A notable absence from that Black Satellites team is Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, who’s out with an injured left knee.

Against Serbia and Germany, Ghana wasted numerous chances but from this stage on wards, they can not dare.
If Ghana beat USA, they have a good chance of getting to the semi-finals since they will then play the winner between Uruguay and South Korea in the quarter finals.
