KIREHE/NGOMA — The 25 Battalion of the Rwanda Defence Force have launched a project to construct 40 houses for the vulnerable in Kigina and Muhurire villages, in Kirehe and Ngoma districts respectively.
This was revealed by Lt. Col. Paul Castro Nyemazi, the head of the construction team.
‘We are completing 10 houses we left unfinished last year in Kigina and starting new ones in Muhurire. We work alongside local leaders and the population, with a common goal of providing the needy with basic needs,’ he said.
In Muhurire village, they have started construction of 30 houses for new settlers recently displaced by the land consolidation programme.
Aimable Sebega Kibinda, the Executive Secretary of Rurenge sector, commended the RDF’s support, saying they had not only given them physical support, but also boosted the residents’ morale.
"We are settling communities according to the new land consolidation programme…we want to resettle them where they can easily access basic infrastructure,” he said.
Leoncia Mukakigeli, one of the beneficiaries, expressed great satisfaction with the RDF support.
‘I was wondering when my house would be complete. Today, as we speak, it’s almost done due to the support the soldiers have given me,’ she said excitedly.
