RUBAVU - The Minister of Finance, John Rwangombwa, has warned government officials to avoid irregularities in spending public funds.

The officials were attending a three-day workshop on public finance management in Rubavu on Monday, "The Auditor General’s reports have unearthed glaring irregularities with respect to how funds allocated to various units are accounted. We should avoid spending funds without supporting documents,” Rwangombwa said.

During the workshop, participants will be briefed on budget executions, planning, and managing public funds.

Poor accountability, wasteful expenditures, mismanagement and incomplete records of internally generated revenues, were cited among the common anomalies.

"We are not preparing you to be experts or accountants. However this training is meant to acquaint participants with the minimum standards of accountability.

"I must remind participants that lack of accountability carries serious charges related to mismanagement of public funds,” Rwangombwa warned.

The training brought together accounting officers in several institutions who included Permanent Secretaries and Director Generals and other institutions affiliated to the government.
