HUYE - Hundreds of Christians from Tumba Christian Forum and staff of Tumba Sector, on Sunday gathered at a local primary school for prayers dedicated to the forthcoming presidential elections.

Pastor Viateur Mutaganzwa of ADEPR Butare, said that praying for the elections was part of their role and it should not been misinterpreted as engaging in politics.

Good Christians, he added, should pray for their leaders, actively participate in elections and vote for suitable candidates without basing on religion, ethnic grounds or any other bias.

"If you vote on the basis of any bias, you are putting your future in danger. We need a leader who abhors divisionism, corruption and injustice for development and better life for the people,” said the clergyman.

He described as being in ‘darkness’ people who refuse to participate in elections because of their religious beliefs.
Alphonse Mutsindashyaka, the Executive Secretary of Tumba Sector, told The New Times that the forum has been working closely with sector authorities to promote educational and health projects.

About 95% of residents in Tumba Sector are Christians and the Christian Forum is made up of 17 Christian churches operating in the sector.
