Goethe-Institut, Liaison office in Kigali wants to promote arts and culture in the country, Karin Kathöfer, the Director of Goethe-Institut has confirmed.
"We are very much looking forward to working with other Rwandan artists in our gallery space,” Kathöfer said.
The Goethe-Institut will support the arts in different ways, through professional exchanges with international arts professionals, in working together to promote artistic programs and through supporting the professional capacity of artists.
"We do not just focus on the visual arts, but also work in the areas of dance, film, theatre, music, and children’s workshops,” she added.
Last Wednesday, Goethe-Institut hosted Collin’s art exhibition dubbed, "As Rwanda Turns: Re-inventing Sculpture and Painting,” and the event was successful.
It was the first art exhibition Goethe-Institut had done with a local artist. Collin’s work is said to be an important opening of Goethe-Institut’s gallery space, as he has been so instrumental in promoting the arts in the country.
Goethe-Institut facilitated Collin’s participation in the East Africa Art Biennale 2009, and has nominated him for the Angola Visual Arts Triennial 2010.
