YVES Sikubwabo is set to fly Rwanda’s flag at this year’s World Junior Championship after securing sponsorship from the International Athletics Federation (IAAF).

The event, to be held in Moncton, Canada, will run from July 19 to 25. Since Sikubwabo is also part of the team that will compete in the inaugural Singapore Olympic Youth Games in August, the Secretary General of the local athletics federation (RAF) Jack Ngabonziza reckons that the junior championship is a good build-up for the youngster.

"The World Junior Championship should help him get in shape for the Singapore Games,” Ngabonziza said.

In Moncton, Sikubwabo who will run in the 5000m category will get stiff competition from Kenya’s John Kipkoech among others.
