KIGALI Basketball Club (KBC) maintained their scintillating run in the national basketball league after back to back wins over the weekend.
The newly formed club battled to a 79-71 victory over Rusizi before thrashing National University of Rwanda (UNR) 79-56 to take their unbeaten run to five games.
KBC Coach Pierre Gategabondo attributed the winning streak to the team’s determination, team work and work ethic.
"The boys play as one and play for each other. They have the will to win and train hard because they want to win,” Gategabondo explained.
During the UNR game on Sunday, KBC center Luc Mutabaruka wooed the crowd with a series of spectacular dunks as he raked in 24 points to finish as the game’s top scorer.
Meanwhile, defending champions continued to have an indifferent season as they crumbled to their second defeat of the season on Saturday.
The Indomitable lions who opened their title defence on a low note after losing to UGB suffered their second defeat on Saturday against CSK 60-63 but regrouped to see off a Ferwaba select side 70-54 the following day.
APR coach Cliff Owuor has now blamed injuries for the defeat.
"While we are still struggling to come to terms with the departure of our key players to Uganda’s Falcons, the others players are down with injury,” the Kenyan said.
