RWAMAGANA- Over 40 head teachers from various schools in Kirehe and Kayonza districts, over the weekend, underwent management and computer training.

The training was organized by the Ministry of Education in conjunction with Belgian NGO, VVOB.

According to Emmanuel Muvunyi, the Executive Secretary of the Teacher Service Commission, the training was meant to equip head teachers of schools implementing 9-Year Basic Education with skills on how to use ICT in school management,

"Head teachers have to create conducive environment in their schools…school management is key to checking drop-out rates,” he said. 

He added that his commission intends to institutionalize the school management course. 

Anita Kayirangwa, the Assistant Programme Manager VVOB Rwanda reiterated the importance of the training, saying that attaining quality education has to be built on strong school management. 

"It is in the management that we have to emphasize…as a matter of principle, we cannot attain quality education without entrenching quality school management,” she said. 

The trainees noted the training should be backed by providing computers and increasing teachers’ salaries. 

"We lack computers back in our schools. It is also important to note that in order to foster quality education, teachers’ salaries have to be increased as a motivation,” said one of the  head teachers.

The training is expected to benefit over 700 head teachers.
