Rwandans who worked in the EAC countries to get their pensions

Rwandans who worked in any of the five (EAC) partner states before returning home are likely to get their social security benefits once the common market protocol comes into force next month, a government official was reported as saying.

According to the head of economic policy in the office of the Prime Minister, John Kalisa, once the annex on the social security is approved effective next month; there will be a transfer of contributions among partner states to their respective beneficiaries.

Political parties, government meet over education
Heads of all political parties early this week met with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr.Mathias Harebamungu to discuss the way forward  for the education-for-all –government policy.

Harebamungu told the politicians that the government aims to have all children in the country access Universal Primary Education (UPE) by 2015.

Army week kicks off

As the second phase of the army week kicked off Thursday this week in Kigali City, officers of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) on the same day carried out eye operations on 12 patients at the Central University Hospital of Kigali (CHUK)

Lt Col John Byimana an RDF Orthopaedic surgeon consultant who presided over the launch said that all the operations were successful. He added that almost 300 patients are to be treated at the seven hospitals in the country before the event winds up.

Rwanda to host continental meet on peace and state building

The joint secretariat of the African Union Commission (AUC) the African Development Bank Group(AFDB) and the United nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) recently selected Rwanda to host the first ever Africa Conference  on peace and State building owing to its success story on post conflict  peace and reconciliation.

The objective of the conference is to promote an African-led discourse on peace and state building in Africa within the context of post-conflict resolution and development.

Diaspora to vote on 8th August

Rwandans in the Diaspora will cast their vote a day earlier in August presidential poll, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has revealed. Presidential elections are slated for August 9.

"August 8th will fall on a Sunday which is a favourable day to the people in the Diaspora. The voting day will be a public holiday here in Rwanda which will not be the case in other countries,” said Charles Munyaneza the NEC Executive Secretary.
