The New Times on 28th October 2009 reported that a Vincent Kagenza was seeking financial assistance (Rwf13 million) from the public to facilitate his treatment in India. According to the story, this patient needed a kidney transplant and the good news is that his brother was set to donate the kidney.

It is however saddening that the poor boy, whose friends and well-wishers had raised close to Rwf 2 million passed away. I certainly believe that our very own corporate companies could have joined efforts to save the life of this twenty-four year old.

Kagenza’s family has lost an energetic family member who could have contributed significantly to his family’s well-being.

The nation has also lost such a young man. I would like to thank The New Times for playing their part and I hope that when such a case arises again, telecom companies that spend billions on advertising and other companies can together join hands and save the lives of those in need.

May his soul rest in peace.
