The less that is said about the French and Nigerian teams in the World Cup the better. I found both of them so uninspiring that I actually switched off the television and read a book. In Nigeria’s case I watched a team implode because of a silly red card. What was Kaita thinking when he tried to kick the Greek player? The sending off was totally merited.

The French are probably the disappointment of the tournament. And I think that it’s entirely their fault. The French FA refused to fire Raymond Domenech, he refused to call up Samir Nasri, Karim Benzema and refused to use Thierry Henry when things went haywire in the game against Mexico.

But even he made schoolboy errors, I expected the French team to play with pride. That didn’t happen. I won’t miss either the ‘Greens’ or "Les Bleus”.
