Jules Rimet- a French man born in 1873, was also known as the father of the world cup because he was the man behind the shaping of the tournament. He was the third man to hold the FIFA president title from 1921 to 1954.

Uruguay was chosen to host this first championship mainly to honour their achievements in sports for successfully retaining their football title at the 1928 Summer Olympics.
Thirteen teams participated in this first World Cup tournament, Uruguay made their way to the finals and defeated Argentina 4–2 in front of a crowd of 93,000 people. By doing so they became the first nation to win a World Cup.
Since this first World Cup, every four years the world is united in the spirit of football. Jules Rimet died 1956 and was named the first honorary President of FIFA.
