RWANDA’s speed merchant Davite Giancarlo is still confident he can beat Zimbabwe’s Jamie Whyte to this year’s FIA Africa Rally Championship title.

Despite making amends for his KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda rally withdraw by winning this month’s KCB Rwanda Mountain Gorilla rally, Giancarlo, who is usually navigated by Sylvia Vindevogel in a Subaru Impreza N10, is 44 points behind the reigning African champion on the ARC charts.

Whyte tops the table with 143 points after winning three of the opening four races; Kobil rally of Tanzania, KCB Safari rally, KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda rally and KCB Rwanda Mountain Gorilla rally.

However, Giancarlo who has won the last two national rally championship titles has promised to fight to the very end.

"It would be unreasonable for me to give in right now. I have put up a fight since the first race and I was only unlucky in Uganda,’ he explained before adding, "the aim now is to make sure I win in Zambia and hope that he (Whyte) doesn’t get a podium slot.”

The next race will be held in Zambia during the weekend of July 16 to 18 in Lusaka while Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally scheduled for Harare from August 27 to 29, will crown off the championship.

A podium finish in any of the two rounds will see Whyte making history as the first driver to win back to back titles.
