Striker Heritier Luvumbu on Saturday, December 31, penned a six-month contract with Rayon Sports ahead of his second spell with the club that runs until June 2023.
The DR Congo international, who arrived in Kigali on Wednesday evening, December 28, put pen to paper on Saturday during the official signing held at Rayon Sports headquarters in Kimihurura.
He is one of the key signings that the club is targeting to use in the squad in club’s quest to win their first league title since 2019 with Moroccan Youssef Rharb and Thierry Manzi also reportedly close to joining the club.
"We just signed him because we believe he can contribute to the team’s quest for the league title and Peace Cup,” said club president Jean Fidele Uwayezu.
Luvumbu had his first spell at Rayon Sports in April 2021. He spent just four months at the club before heading to Angola's Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto for a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old rose to fame in 2014 when he played for his hometown club AS Vita Club in DRC. He left in 2017 to join Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
In 2018, Luvumbu moved to the Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (AS FAR) of Morocco. He played for the club until 2019 when he joined Club Athletic Youssoufia Berrechid.
He made his first national team appearance with DR Congo’s Les Léopards in 2014 and he is one of the players who helped the country win the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) held in Rwanda.
Rayon Sports finished the first games of the season in fifth place with 28 points. It is behind the first AS Kigali with 30 points, equal with Kiyovu Sports and APR FC and Gasogi United with 28 points from 15 games played.
