Over 30 undergo eye operations at Byumba Hospital

GICUMBI- 38 eye patients were yesterday operated on at Byumba Hospital by Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) medics, as the annual Army Week was launched. 

Speaking to The New Times, the RDF spokesman, Lt. Col Jill Rutaremara, said that the second edition of the Army Week would involve provision of healthcare and various humanitarian projects aimed at improving residents’ socio-economic welfare.

"It will involve rendering humanitarian services to residents such as eye treatment, provision of mosquito nets, dental treatment, building bridges and construction of houses for the poor,’ said Rutaremara. 

A total of 500 people are expected to receive eye treatment while 2,000 houses will be constructed for the poor countrywide, he said.

RDF 2nd Division Commander, Brig. Gen Alex Kagame, called upon residents to work hand-in-hand with RDF to guarantee health and their economic wellbeing. 

RDF 408 Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen Eric Murokore, said that a total of 108 residents of Burera, Gicumbi and Rulindo will receive eye treatment during the week.
