GICUMBI – Two men are being held at Byumba Police Station for allegedly murdering a 75-year-old woman identified only as Kabega, a resident of Mubuga village in Miyove Sector.

The suspects were identified as Claudien Mulindabigwi, 25 and François Nsengiyumva 44, both residents of the same sector. Police allege that the duo committed the crime last Wednesday night, after a drinking spree at a local bar.

One of the suspects, Mulindabigwi, admitted to being given Rwf15,000 by Nsengiyumva to murder the woman, according to police.

"Nsengiyumva had a longtime grudge with the old woman because she reported him to local authorities for having fraudulently acquired a cow meant for poor peasants. The cow was repossessed and donated to another poor resident,” said the Police source.

The Mubuga Cell Executive Secretary, Védaste Mugiraneza told The New Times that after strangling the old woman, Mulindabigwi went into hiding until he was apprehended by area residents last Friday in Mubuga Cell.

"Mulindabigwi admitted to murdering the woman,” said Mugiraneza.
