IT was double joy for Kenya Prisons as they swept both the male and female accolades in the just ended Bitok International Volleyball tournament at Eldoret Polytechnic in Nairobi, Kenya.
While it had been reported that local teams would take part in the event, it didn’t come to fruition.
"It was sad not to see Rwandan teams in action. I’m sure they would have challenged for the honours,” the Kenyan, who currently handles APR’s female volleyball team said.
In the female category, Prisons thrashed Kenya Pipeline 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-23) in an all-Kenyan final to pocket a cash prize of Rwf0.8m.
The encounter was a repeat of this year’s African Clubs Championship final, where Prisons overcame Pipeline 3-0 to clinch the continental title for the second time in three years. Runners-up Pipeline returned to Nairobi Rwf0.5m richer.
Prisons men then emulated their female counterparts after they beat Nairobi Pasta 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-22) to pocket Rwf0.8m.
APR and National University of Rwanda (UNR) had been invited for the annual tourney.
