KAMONYI - Residents of Rwezamenyo village in Nyamiyaga sector, Kamonyi district, have boosted the district’s drive to get rid of grass thatched houses through community work. During a function to celebrate residents’ social-economic achievements, Jacqueline Mukankuranga, the village leader, revealed that residents have so far built eight modern houses to replace traditional huts in the area.
KAMONYI - Residents of Rwezamenyo village in Nyamiyaga sector, Kamonyi district, have boosted the district’s drive to get rid of grass thatched houses through community work.
During a function to celebrate residents’ social-economic achievements, Jacqueline Mukankuranga, the village leader, revealed that residents have so far built eight modern houses to replace traditional huts in the area.
"The contribution of residents has been fundamental in implementing the programme, and we are hopeful that grass thatched houses will be eliminated, so as to transform the living conditions of residents,” Mukankuranga said last weekend.
One of the beneficiaries, Jean Pierre Mvukiyehe lauded the residents for their contribution and stated that he would do likewise to assist others living in poor conditions.
Jean de Dieu Nkurunziza, the Executive Secretary of Nyamiyaga Sector attributed their achievements to good governance and collaboration of residents and local leaders.
Kamonyi District has at least 264 grass thatched houses and provincial leadership has asked all districts heads to ensure that the houses are replaced with modern houses by the end of this year.
