½ final

APR 3-2 Electrogaz

APR is a game away from bagging its fifth MTN Peace Cup title after edging Electrogaz 3-2 yesterday at Amahoro stadium.

Ivorian born play maker Didier Rogba Sella scored the opening goal for the military side on the 40th minute after a superb one-two with Malawian international Chiukepo Msowoya.

Kabange Twite then doubled the army side’s lead after pouncing on a clever chip from Haruna Niyonzima. But Electrogaz wrestled back with back to back goals from Innocent Habyarimana and Bagumaho Hamisi to leave the game open.

But APR had the last laugh when Chiukepo sent a thunderous strike past Electrogaz goalie Emery Mvuyekure.
While APR now need to wrestle Rayon for the title on June 19, Electrogaz are certain third spot finishers following Atraco’s withdraw from the competition.

Ahead of the final, Erik Paske, who recently guided the club to their eleventh league title, will need his defence to be more solid than it was yesterday.

This year, APR is chasing for a fifth MTN Peace Cup after victories in 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Victory over Rayon will also seal an unprecedented treble for Paske given that he has already guided the club to the Primus league and Cecafa Kagame Cup.

In 2007, DRC Coach Andy Mfutila rewrote history when he reached the landmark. Last year, Atraco pocketed Rwf10m after winning the MTN Peace Cup while Mukura, APR and Rayon pocketed Rwf7m, Rwf4m and Rwf2.5m respectively after finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

The winner also earns the right to represent the country in the Africa Confederation Cup.
