At least six people, including four Rwandans, died in a road accident involving a Rwandan and Kenyan bus in Western Uganda on Friday morning.
According to a statement from the Uganda Police Force, the accident happened along the Ntungamo-Kabale road.
"The accident involved motor vehicle registration number RAD798B HYUNDAI bus, belonging to Volcano Bus Company and motor vehicle registration number KCU054L (SCANIA) belonging to Oxygen Bus Company," said Faridah Nampiima, the Spokesperson of Uganda Police Force's Traffic Directorate.
Among the victims identified, so far, is Alphonse Murara, a Rwandan driver, Etienne Hakizimana, a passenger on board the Volcano bus, and a yet to be identified Burundian female passenger who was aboard the Oxygen bus.
David Omido, a Kenyan driver, died on the spot, as well as Mustafa Ishingiro and Clause Gakuru, two Rwandans who worked as the conductors of the Oxygen and Volcano buses, respectively.
"An approximate number of 40 passengers whose particulars are yet to be established were rushed to Lotom Health Centre in Muhanga (Rukiga District, Uganda)," read the Uganda Police Force statement.
Ugandan officials say the suspected cause of the accident is "reckless driving by the driver of Volcano bus," who, eyewitnesses say, was driving from the wrong side of the road "where he met an on-coming Oxygen bus."
The bodies of the deceased have all been conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem, the Uganda Police Force statement added.
