Rwanda’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ernest Rwamucyo, Tuesday presented his credentials to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

During the ceremony, Rwamucyo, reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to the existing cooperation with the UK.

In a statement released by the Rwandan High Commission, the new envoy pledged to work tirelessly during his tour of duty to ensure that the solid collaboration between the two countries continues to grow to greater heights.”

"He thanked Her Majesty for the unwavering support her government gave Rwanda in bid to join the Commonwealth and assured her that Rwanda will be an active member that will uphold the organisation’s values,” reads the statement.

The Rwandan envoy further pledged to work hard to optimize opportunities and benefits from the Commonwealth membership. He as well reaffirmed Rwanda’s critical vision of building a country that "seeks to be a constructive player in the wider community of nations, both in the region and globally”.

The Queen sent greetings and best wishes to President Paul Kagame and the people of Rwanda.

Rwamucyo is Rwanda’s first High Commissioner to the UK following the country’s admission to the Commonwealth last year.

He replaces Ambassador Claver Gatete who has since been appointed the Vice Governor of the Central Bank.

The UK’s support to Rwanda is underlined by a ten year Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

Most importantly, its aid is aligned and harmonized to Rwanda’s development priorities.
