Kigali city is set to publicly auction all its residential facilities around the city to give way to the implementation of the Master Plan, The New Times has established.
The houses which are in Rugunga and Kiyovu (Nyarugenge District), and others in Kacyiru in Gasabo and in Kicukiro districts, are all occupied by tenants.
Efforts to reach KCC officials were futile by press time.
However, sources inside KCC that preferred not to be named because they have no authority to comment on the City’s behalf, said that the process is yet to be agreed upon with the Ministry of Infrastructure.
"We are waiting for a confirmation from the ministry so that we auction them. But we can not tell when they will be auctioned,” source said
The houses in Kacyiru recently caused a commotion after the tenants accused KCC of hiking the rent. The City allegedly doubled rent from Rwf 80,000 to Rwf 160,000 per month and they were required to pay one year upfront.
