We may or may not have been successful at fulfilling the so many plans we had in 2007. Whatever the case, today the New Year begins. Sam Nkurunziza talked to the youth about Christmas and he brings to you their new year’s ambitions.

Uwase Sherry Doreen, 16,

I study at Sunrise High School, Ruhengeri. I’ve just finished my senior three.

I hope to study Maths and Physics next year because I want to be an architecture in future for me Christmas befell like a surprise and I wish it would have been postponed.

I didn’t do any shopping with mom that I usually do, not even a single present I bought. I like receiving presents on such special days but this time I never got any.

I like singing and am looking forward to the opportunity of improving my talent next year. This New Year, am planning to compose a song for the most boring Christmas I have ever had.

Santa Douglas Joseph, 18

I attend Saint Joseph Kabwayi. I am in senior four.
On Christmas day I went to church in the morning after which, my joy was made complete.

I went out with my girl friends to have fun. I enjoyed my day to the best of my ability. I liked the girls mostly and they loved me too. On other days I like watching and playing football. If am not in class.

I want to become a better footballer next year and am now working hard to develop my talent. I liked Arsenal but now I love Barcelona because of Thierry Henry.

I appeal to all students to take care during these long holidays and avoid dangerous places like bars and night clubs.

Twizeyimana Jean Bosco (Dudu).

I am 18 years old and study ETO Muhima. I study automobile mechanics and am in senior five. I am a social drinker so on Christmas I went drinking, eating and dancing with my girlfriend Leontine.

It was a great day, I was anxious waiting for because I had just got my new girlfriend and I couldn’t wait to have fun with her. I also like football and my favorite team is Chelsea.

My next years resolution is to be the first in class.
I didn’t reach my goal because I was not focused or disciplined last year.

This year has to be with a difference and I am determined to achieve that unconditionally.

Mukamana Faina 19,

I attend King David Academy in Kanombe. I am in senior five and my Christmas was undoubtedly one of the best.
I hoped to have as much fun as possible with my two brothers and I surely did.

It’s amazing how I felt but I love them so much and I got a lot this Christmas. The best thing is that come rain or shine, am determined to enter the New Year with a shining star.

My life is still one of a struggle; I want to follow Jesus so that this  year I am a whole new person ready to face the challenges of this world.

I call upon all youth like me to adopt this spirit and life which will never be the same again.
