Charles Bandora, a top Genocide fugitive, was yesterday arrested at a Norwegian airport on after he flew from Belgium where he had been detained.

Grounds for his release from detention in Belgium were not clear by press time, but according to reports, the suspect was travelling on a Malian passport the time he was arrested in Norway.

When contacted, Prosecution Spokesperson, Augustin Nkusi, welcomed the development. "I cannot speculate on why he was released in Belgium, but this latest development is good. Bandora was the president of MRND in Bugesera during the Genocide and he facilitated Interahamwe in the killing of the Tutsi,” Nkusi noted.

In 1994, Bandora was a wealthy businessman and an influent local member of the then ruling MRND party which orchestrated the 1994 mass killings.

He allegedly trained and armed Interahamwe militiamen in the Bugesera region and personally supervised massacres there. In January, the fugitive was arrested in Malawi for his alleged role in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, but was again released mysteriously. Charles Bandora was born in 1953, in Mudasomwa, now in the Southern Province.
