MUHANGA - Students of Kavumu College of Education (KCE) have made a commitment to fight the Genocide ideology by promoting unity and reconciliation.

The students made the commitment during a genocide commemoration event held at the institute’s premises, recently.

The students also held a memorial service and paid tribute to Genocide victims buried at Kabgayi Memorial Site.
MP Jean Thierry Karemera, who is also the KCE patron, encouraged the students to live by example and change the history of the country.

He said: "The solutions of fighting Genocide and its ideology lie in the hands of the youth today.”

"We should live with hope and make the first step to promote unity and reconciliation to rebuild our country”.
Theophile Rutabagengwa, an official of the Muhanga chapter of Ibuka, an umbrella organization of Genocide survivors’ associations, hailed the school administration for initiating the idea of commemoration among students in the newly established institute of education.

"The students’ initiative is encouraging and should be seen as a sign of hope that the country is committed to the notion of ‘never again’. We can all fight against Genocide by working for a brighter future,” he said.

The Principal of KCE, Casmir Rutayitera, observed that the fight against genocide ideology is important and reaffirmed the institute’s resolve to raise upright educationalists who will educate the community on good values.
