About 44 people have been selected to take part in Rwanda’s exhibition in Johannesburg and Tshwane, the two World Cup hosting cities in South Africa during World Cup.

Kigali city mayor, Aisa Kirabo Kacyira revealed this yesterday in a press briefing held at the city hall, aimed at updating on the preparations.

The delegation which include ten government officials, 11 cultural troupe dancers and 15 exhibitors also includes five local musicians; Masamba, Meddy, Miss Jojo, Alpha and Kitoko who are scheduled to perform on ‘Rwanda Day’ slated for June 13, 14 and 16 in South Africa.

Previously, only 30 people had been selected but Kirabo said there are other people who agreed to sponsor themselves while others were sponsored.

"We managed to get sponsorship from the private sector but there are some people who agreed to meet the transport costs and we cover the accommodation, ground costs and meals while there (South Africa),” Kirabo said
Rwanda, will build a stand in Johannesburg and ‘Rwanda Village’ in Tshwane, Pretoria where the country’s products will be exhibited.

Among the products to be showcased are coffee, tea, investment opportunities in ICT, Tourism and the Kigali City Master Plan and Rwanda’s cultural dances, art and craft as the backbone of the country’s tradition.

The Rwandan cultural troupe is scheduled to entertain MTN officials on June 11 before they (officials) depart for the official opening of the World Cup. MTN are the official World Cup sponsors.

Florence Kayiraba, the event Coordinator and Kicukiro district vice Mayor in charge of social affairs said that besides promoting Rwanda’s image, it also aims at promoting Rwanda’s music industry.

Rwanda’s invitation to showcase during World Cup followed a long standing sister relationship between Kigali and South Africa cities of Pretoria, Durban and Johannesburg.
