Center for Business Solution (CBS), an affiliate company of Maxinet Group ltd offering business support to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has said it will offer two trainings to 50 private schools on employee retention in marketing and human resource management.

According to Rebson Dzala Washe, the corporate and strategic planning officer, CBS has specific training modules for various sectors on business growth and development.

"We are targeting directors, bursars in primary and secondary schools as well as colleges on how they can retain their best employees and we train other sectors on business planning,” said Dzala.

The training that commenced yesterday and will conclude today is in collaboration with International Finance Corporation (IFC) which is charged with quality control.

Dzala also said that in order for businesses to grow, they train them in documentation book keeping among others and the follow up is done to assess the progress.

This year, CBS has equipped 14 SMEs from the energy sector and trained 25 trainers who are certified by the World Bank hence targeting 1,500 SMEs while it trained 800 last year.

According to the IFC survey done in 2008, it found out a total of 72,000 in Rwanda but most of them in the informal sector and their challenge is to transform them into formal sector.

However, Dzala, recognizes the mindset among business owners as the biggest challenge to business growth saying "Rwandans should be aggressive and drop their business culture.”

The skills gap in Rwanda is another challenge which must be addressed if the SME sector is register growth.
