NGOMA – Lycée de Zaza has received Rwf 7.8 million and 10 Friesian cows from the Ministry of Education for recording excellent academic performance in last year’s national examinations. 

The school’s head teacher, Marie Goretti Umugwaneza, told The New Times yesterday that the support would be used to expand the school’s laboratory.

"We passed all students last academic year and we emerged number one… the Ministry of Education through the district awarded us in recognition of our efforts,” she said.

Separately, Francois Ntiyotwagira, the Ngoma district Mayor applauded the school’s administration, teachers and parents for what he called exemplary education offered to the students.

The Mayor asked students to be patriotic, and avoid engaging in unbecoming behaviour during holidays.

"There is no doubt that the school has been doing well, especially in ensuring discipline among students. Discipline is fundamental for any success in the academic world,” he said.

Rutagambwa Gasongo, a parents’ representative at the school said that the school’s discipline has attracted many students. 

He, however, warned that the excellence of the school is likely to increase students’ enrolment which has a potential of compromising its standards. 

"Our worry today is that the students’ number will overwhelm the school’s capacity. Because of the discipline, every parent wants his or her child in this school,” he said.

The school that started in 1964 has a total of 483 students, both at the Ordinary and Advanced levels.
