HUYE – Members of the Solidarity Football Club, an amateur soccer team based in Huye district, over the week-end donated ten goats to poor genocide widows in Nyabuzunzu village, Rusatira sector.
Organisers said the donation was made in a spirit of helping genocide widows improve their living standards.
"From individual contributions, we saw it fitting to buy goats for the vulnerable widows as a way of boosting them economically as they face the consequences of the 1994 Genocide,” said Jean Pierre Nshimyimana, the leader of Solidarity Team.
The group members vowed to organise such events intended at supporting genocide survivors every year. Widows and orphans are their first target, according to Nshimyimana.
Beneficiaries commended the initiative and noted that it will help them fight poverty in their respective families.
"The goat I received will help me get fertilisers for agriculture purposes, this will boost production, thus assisting us to fight poverty,” said Catherine Mukabasebya, one of the beneficiaries.
Jacqueline Uwamariya, the officer in-charge of social affairs in Rusatira sector, called upon beneficiaries to take care of the animals so that they will be able to donate to others in future.
