Due to a busy schedule ahead of the imminent August 9 presidential elections, the Ntare School Patrons’ diner has been postponed. Rwandan old boys of Ntare School, a boys’ secondary school located in western Uganda, were set to host major fundraising events, including a dinner in Kigali on June 19, in conjunction with their Ugandan counterparts.
Due to a busy schedule ahead of the imminent August 9 presidential elections, the Ntare School Patrons’ diner has been postponed.
Rwandan old boys of Ntare School, a boys’ secondary school located in western Uganda, were set to host major fundraising events, including a dinner in Kigali on June 19, in conjunction with their Ugandan counterparts. Two senior Ntare School old boys - Presidents Paul Kagame and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, were expected to grace the dinner.
On Saturday, Charles Gahima, the Vice Chairman of Ntare School Old Boys Association (NSOBA-Global) and Chairman NSOBA-Rwanda Chapter sent e-mails to members announcing the change of plans and that another date, after the elections, would be communicated.
"We are busy preparing for the upcoming presidential elections. We have decided to resume our preparatory activities after the elections,” Gahima told The New Times, yesterday.
NSOBA-Rwanda is fast tracking plans to build a model replica of Uganda’s Ntare School, on a 50 hectare piece of land donated by Bugesera District.
The new secondary school is expected to cost an estimated Rwf2.5bn and the Patrons gala was also part of a major fundraiser for the project which the Ugandan community has promised to support.
NSOBA-Rwanda members have vowed to ‘give back to society’ and want the values and norms inspired by Ntare School, passed on.
Ntare School is one of the oldest and best performing Ugandan secondary schools. Apart from the two Heads of State, it has also nurtured many other prominent figures.
