EMMANUEL Ruterana pocketed a consolation Rwf1m after falling short of Simon Ngige in the sudden-death play-off of the KCB East African Golf Tour Kigali leg which climaxed yesterday at Kigali Golf Club.
The 26-year-old had leveled the course to finish joint top with the Kenyan on 291. Despite falling short, Ruterana was still happy with his performance.
"It has been a challenging tournament so I’m happy with the outcome,” the former BCR sponsored golfer said.
Ngige bagged Rwf 1.35 million while Jean Baptista Hakizimana kept his nerve to finish third and pocket Rwf 0.77m.
Overnight leader Richard Ainley was disgusted with himself after carding five-over-par to finish 6th. The 2010 KCB East African Golf tour is a series of eight tournaments staged in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.
This year, the KCB group considerably upped their sponsorship from a mere Rwf7.125m to Rwf93.75m.
The next leg will be held in Kampala while the grand finale is slated for August in Mombassa.
