Don Cheadle appointed UNEP Goodwill Ambassador

KINIGI - RENOWNED Hollywood star, Don Cheadle, was yesterday appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme during the Kwita Izina (gorilla naming) and global World Environment Day (WED) ceremony in Rwanda.

KINIGI - RENOWNED Hollywood star, Don Cheadle, was yesterday appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme during the Kwita Izina (gorilla naming) and global World Environment Day (WED) ceremony in Rwanda.

This was announced by the UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner, at the grounds of the Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi, where Cheadle took part in the Gorilla-naming ceremony.

He called his baby Gorilla ‘Zoya’ which was the choice made online by more than 800 people around the globe.
"Mr Cheadle will raise green awareness among millions of people around the globe and draw attention to ways we can deal with issues like pollution and environmental- based conflict,” said Steiner.

The thrilled Don Cheadle said: "I hope this position will give me  the opportunity to motivate the public to tackle environmental challenges.”
