KIGALI - THE land regulatory body, the National Land Centre (NLC) has set a target of registering three million parcels of land in this financial year.

This was revealed over the weekend by Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, the Director General NLC He added that at least 800,000 plots of land have been demarcated and registered.

"Our target was to meet 10% of the land registration and by April we had already surpassed the target,” Dr. Nkurunziza said. Nkurunziza. who is also the Registrar of Land Titles, said the next financial year, the bureau would focus on Kigali City.

"This is where major economic activities are taking place and rapid growth is occurring. There are about 300,000 plots to be registered in Kigali City. Our target is to complete it by the end of next year.”

"The biggest challenge we may encounter is rectifying mistakes that may have been done in acquiring land in Kigali City.”

He also said that other challenges faced by the bureau are demarcation and registration of plots due to conflicts which constitute about 2% of the challenges.

Land registration has been extended to several parts in the country having started in Bugesera District where the Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza, visited recently to witness the progress of the land demarcation exercise.

At least eight million plots of land await to be demarcated and registered in the whole country.
