A visiting 10-man delegation from Sudan’s semi-autonomous region of South Sudan, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Defence, Gen. James Kabarebe, and was briefed on the role of the army in peace building and national reconstruction.

Army and Defence Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Jill Rutaremara, took the visitors through a presentation on "the National Defence Policy of Rwanda.”

"They were interested in knowing our defence policy and the role of the army in peace building and national reconstruction. We explained to them our activities and our army’s history,” said Rutaremara.

"We demonstrated what we are doing, especially the army’s role in reconciliation, we showed them that we are actually the first in implementing things when it comes to reconciliation”.

The delegation includes top military officials.
Last year, eight South Sudan MPs paid a visit to draw lessons from Rwanda’s unity and reconciliation process following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi which cost the lives of over one million people.
