During a training session of Rwanda Red Cross senior officials and senior volunteers on food security, a regional food security expert of twenty years of experience working with disaster preparedness and food security issues from International Federation of Red Cross society and Red Crescent alleged that water conservation is important for food security in any country.

Conflicts, floods and other natural disasters are the major causes of chronic food insecurity in countries which include the Great Lakes region, Horn of Africa and Indian Ocean islands.

The true picture on Rwanda’s food security is not clear but it is only wise to secure food for the population. But at large, the food security is not at risk.

Rwanda Red Cross recently embarked on tree planting exercise in several districts as part of a strategy to help reduce natural and man-made risks.

Believe it will make an impact in society
