THE Silverbacks will take on New Zealand first division side Ponsonby in the Safaricom Sevens this morning at the rugby football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds in Nairobi. 

Silverbacks are in Group C and are the only team playing for the first time in the prestigious Safari 7s that is considered to be Africa’s premier sevens tournament.

The National side needs two wins to qualify for the elite Main Cup category and Coach Gerald Nsenga told Times Sport from Nairobi yesterday that his players’ fitness is good but they need to have confidence to put up a good show.

"We are up against very difficult teams and it is imperative that the boys keep their confidence up.”

"There is no doubt that playing in the Main Cup will be a huge achievement for us,” he added.

14 teams are taking part in the two-day tournament and they include; Les Bleus (France), Samurai, Tanzania, Zambia, Emerging Boks (South Africa), Bristol (England), Namibia, Argentina, Zimbabwe, Grenoble (France), Shujaa (Kenya), Hamilton Raiders (South Africa), Ponsonby (New Zealand), Uganda and the Silverbacks.
