Dieudonne Disi is planning to upset the Kenyan and World’s record holder Samuel Wanjiru during the Dubai International marathon set for February 8, 2008.

Rwanda’s 5000m, 1.000m and half marathon national record holder told Times Sport on Friday that his ability to successfully win several half marathon races in 2007 gives him the desire to break the World half marathon record held by his Kenyan rival.

"I want to break Wanjiru’s record and stage my own dominance on the continent and the world’s athletics history. I have the ability to challenge Wanjiru and I’m tirelessly working out plans to disappoint him. "Being able to win the three half marathon races in a period of three months gives me confidence to even do better in future championships, starting with the Dubai race in Dubai,” Disi said.

Disi who added the Abidjan Ivory Coast victory to this year’s successful championship titles is ready to upset Wanjiru come February 8.

The 27-year-old secured one of the biggest victories of his running career by winning the AFN/GLO International Lagos Half Marathon on December 8. He also produced perfect performance by finishing sixth in59:32  in Udine at  the World Road Running Championship in October where he finished sixth, setting a new national record.

But the Delhi Half Marathon triuph remains, Disi’s biggest sucess story of his career.

The former RDF Kadogo won in the international race in 60:43.  He is the first Rwandan athlete to qualify for next year's Olympic Games with his time of 27:22:23 in 10.000m at the Memorial Van Damme race held in Belgium, which also helped him surpass the minimum required standard 'A' time (for the Games) 27:50.00.
